Daylight saving time ends Nov. 1, which will push more evening commutes into the dark. Be most alert at dawn and dusk and near fields, wetlands and water—which describes much of the Bear Lake valley. Use the Utah Roadkill Reporter app to report carcasses. Source: Utah Division of Wildlife Resources

What’s biting (Anglers Den report Oct. 12) — Fishing is rated Good. As the lake cools, cutthroat are moving shallower. Lake trout should push onto the rockpile and rocky points to spawn later this month. Troll bright jointed minnows and FlatFish, or jig tubes and swimbaits once fish show up on your graph. Find fish on sonar and keep your lure at or just above them. No fresh catch reports came in this week. Source: Anglers Den

DWR fall forecast (Sept. 17, latest available on Fish Utah) — DWR’s September–November outlook still calls fall a prime time for big lake trout and cutthroat. Proven spots include the rockpile off Ideal Beach, from the Marina north to Fish Haven, and on the east side from Second Point to the South Eden delta, Cisco Beach and Idaho’s state park. As lake trout move in to spawn, shore and shallow-water fishing should improve off Cisco Beach, the Marina and the North Beach jetty. The trout limit is two, and there is no fin-clip rule for cutthroat. A Utah or Idaho license is valid on the whole lake. Source: Utah DWR Fish Utah

Seasonal alerts: Docks, the pump-out and the fish cleaning station are winterized Oct. 20—plan accordingly. With invasive mussels confirmed elsewhere in Utah waters earlier this month, clean, drain and dry every time you leave the lake.
