Heading to Bear Lake from the Evanston Route? Expect Construction Delays

If you’re coming to Bear Lake from the west through Evanston, Wyoming, be prepared for some slowdowns on the usual route (I-80 to Evanston, then US-89 north).

Here are the current trouble spots you should know about:

1. Bear River Bridge Area (just north of Evanston/Almy)

WYDOT is replacing bridge decks on two bridges over the Bear River. Traffic is reduced to one alternating lane controlled by a temporary signal. Delays here can run up to 15 minutes.

2. Bear River Crossing just south of Woodruff

There’s additional bridge and road work in this stretch. Expect more single-lane traffic and flaggers.

3. Between Woodruff and Randolph (Irrigation Canal area)

Construction is happening on SR-16, including bridge work near the Woodruff-Randolph Canal. Lights are short, but with heavy summer traffic, you could sit through a couple light cycles. Plan on an extra 5–10 minutes here.

The drive from Evanston to Bear Lake usually feels quick, but right now it’s taking longer than normal. Give yourself some extra time, especially on weekends when traffic is heaviest.
