If you’ve been feeling the burn at Bear Lake this weekend, you’re not imagining it. The area’s been under a serious heat wave, and the numbers back it up.

The all-time record high at Bear Lake State Park stands at a blistering 104°F, set way back on July 21, 1960. That’s the official mark from the park’s monitoring station, and it still hasn’t been touched.

Yesterday, the park saw a high of 97°F — hot, dry, and a classic July scorcher at 6,000 feet elevation. Today’s pushing close to that again, with forecasts around 98°F, just shy of the July 12 record of 99°F from 2002.

Even though Bear Lake usually stays cooler thanks to the altitude, this weekend proved it can still deliver serious heat. Stay hydrated out there, and enjoy that beautiful water — it’s the perfect escape when the air gets this warm.
